What we collect

Kathaikal has no accounts and no sign-up, and we do not ask for your name or email to read anything. At the time of writing the site does not use advertising or analytics scripts. If we ever add them, this page will be updated first and the change will be described here, including the choices you will have.

What stays on your device

Your choices (for example English or Tamil, text size, reading speed, the voice you picked, which Divya Desam temples you have ticked as visited, and your best scores in letter games) are saved in your browser's own storage on your device. They are never sent to us. Clearing your browser data removes them.

Reading aloud

The Listen and Sound buttons use your browser's built-in speech voices. Some browsers send the text to their own online voice service to be spoken. That is done by your browser or device maker, not by us.

Reciting together

The "Recite together" page needs no server: the session code holds the verse and the start time, and each phone works out the same schedule. To line up clocks, your browser asks Cloudflare, which hosts this site, for the time. Like any website visit, this means Cloudflare sees your network address as part of delivering pages.

Hosting and logs

The site is hosted by Cloudflare. Cloudflare may keep standard security and delivery logs. We do not use them to identify visitors.

Links to other sites

Some pages link to other sites, such as makekite.com or the open sources of a text. Their own privacy policies apply once you leave Kathaikal.

Children

Many pages are written for children. We collect nothing from children and show no ads on children's pages.
