About Kathaikal (கதைகள்)
Kathaikal is a free website for Tamil families. It brings together devotional verses in large Tamil script with a word-by-word reading guide, Tamil stories for children, the moral texts of Avvaiyar and Thiruvalluvar with a meaning and a story for each line, the 108 Divya Desams, and a tool for reciting together with family in different places. There is no sign-up and nothing to pay.
Who runs it
Kathaikal is run by Ravi in Melbourne, Australia, as a sister site of makekite.com, where the Tamil pages first appeared.
How the content was made
Verse text is copied from open editions (mainly Project Madurai and Vaidika Vignanam) and checked line by line, with obvious typing errors corrected. The meanings, stories, word-by-word notes and temple write-ups were written for this site in original wording with the help of AI, and every page says so. They are meant as friendly guides, not as authoritative commentary.
Different editions word and join verses differently, and a human reader will always catch things a computer misses. If you find a mistake in a verse, a meaning, a story or a temple fact, please tell us and we will check it and fix it.
Audio
The sites use the voices already on your phone or computer to read meanings aloud. They are computer voices, not recordings of a reciter, and quality varies by device. Some browsers use an online voice service to speak.
